It was about eight o' clock in the evening and a villager was walking, with his young boy, along the footpath to his home on the village green. The boy was a few yards ahead when round the corner by Forge Cottages came a BMW whose driver completely lost control of the car.

This picture, taken the following morning, shows the tracks of the wheels as it mounted the verge for the first time.
