The villager who witnessed this incident had been fearing for the saftey of his boy, who had been well ahead of him. Now, he jumps for cover himself, at this gap in the hedge directly opposite the entrance to the Barn Conversions.

He said that the car came so close that he tought it had actually mounted the verge at the edge of the footpath. Inspection of the verge the following morning did not confirm this. However, it is quite possible that overhang, in front of the wheels, meant that if he had been standing on the footpath he could have been hit.
