Shortly before 19:15 a squeal of brakes and a crash is heard. No one in the village has been found who knows why the Vauxhall Vera stopped, but what was clear is the a driver of the Escort Convertible that was following was either driving too fast or too close or not paying sufficient attention to slow and stop in time.

The the first of the two ambulances that attended the incident is seen here arriving at 19:23 and stationing itself in the entrance to the Greyhound Barns. The second arrived at 19:25 but leaves soon afterwards. A second Police car arrived at 19:49 and was also sent on its way quickly.
