Had the impact with the car waiting to turn right been at any greater angle it would almost certainly have hit the house full on, with, almost certainly, significant injury to the driver and damage to the building. Although the fence would not have reduced its speed much, hitting the heavy oil tank, which nevertheless would have been relatively mobile, and then collapsing the shed, meant that the car slowed relatively slowly and so the driver avoided injury.

However, "The car must have been flying!" said the husband when he arrived home, having been fetched by his daughter. "It only dislodged the top couple of a stack of paving slabs over a foot high, when it hit the house."
